Course Offerings

Program Description
Peru is the crown jewel of South America. This stunning Andean nation combines extreme differences in topography and landscape with the most diverse cultural mosaic in all of Latin America. Open to students of all majors, the KIIS Peru program focuses primarily on archaeology and anthropology. We will stay in many colonial gems, including Arequipa and Cuzco, and visit numerous sites including a flight over the famous Nazca Lines, before reaching Machu Picchu, the most celebrated archaeological site in the Western Hemisphere.

Please be aware that many program excursions will be physically strenuous. They will involve much walking at elevations routinely exceeding 10,000 feet/3,200 meters.

No Spanish is required for this program, as all instruction is in English. Students with some language proficiency will be able to improve their speaking skills, as well as their knowledge of Peruvian culture, through interactions with locals and explorations of this diverse Andean nation.

Students are required to purchase an International Student Identity Card (ISIC). You may obtain an ISIC through the Rinker Center for International Programs ($25). Failure to bring an ISIC card will result in a $350 surcharge to cover your additional expenses while in Peru.

Important KIIS Peru Air Travel Notice:
Flights to and from Peru typically are overnight flights. The program fee includes one-way domestic airfare from Cuzco to Lima for all students, be they Option 1 (individual travel) or Option 2 (group flight) Option 1 students need to purchase a return flight itinerary that gives them ample time to make an onward connection. Option 1 students are advised to view the Peru Itinerary and contact the Program Director at prior to purchasing a flight itinerary.
